Instead of sitting home yet another Sunday, I went to Union Square to check things out. Upon arriving, I felt only slightly disoriented before i found my bearings & decided to get a cup of coffee at cosi. Then I ventured back out into the cold windy day & saw people filming in the park. Others were sitting on steps in the vanishing sunshine waiting on friends and family. Others were eating or shopping or just talking on their cell phones. But when I quit paying attention to all those people & turned around, I saw these two guys sitting down to the play chess. I played with the light meter & walked around to catch them playing their game. To my surprise, the younger of the two leaned over to light the older gentleman's cigarette. Interesting moment to catch. Afterwards, the older man gave me the stink eye so I took it as my cue to leave. :)

I took advantage of the sunny day and went down to Union Square to see what was going on in the world. Came across these two who are against the war in Iraq. But I think this was being filmed as part of something to do with NY Film Academy, which is located around Union Square.

Lost Bayou Ramblers ended their annual northeast tour by playing in Brooklyn first at Brooklyn Botanic Gardens & then at Pete's Candy Store. This was my 4th year to hang out with the guys & the first year that I've actually traveled to see them on the road when they were close enough to get their by Amtrak train. If Lost Bayou Ramblers come to your town or even close by, GO SEE THEM! You won't regret it.

It's been a while since I've posted. Stress at home & travel abroad...well, in hindsight I'm glad I got through it all without totally losing my cool and my head.

I just got back from Paris. A girlfriend went to Cambridge, London & Bath, England and then decided to hop over to Paris. We subletted an apartment for a week & had a blast! This shot is from the top of Notre Dame at night with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Just to the left of the Eiffel Tower is the Eglise du Dome where Napoleon Bonaparte's body lies. I've enjoyed their friendship & their music so much that since I met them 3 years ago, I haven't looked back since. They're amazing and if they ever perform near you, you MUST go see them!

This past weekend, I made birthday cake for Ben. Unfortunately, I didn't have any PAM so I used oil. My bundt cake pan didn't like that idea and decided to keep some of that cake for itself. I rescued what I could, dripped chocolate icing all over it, pierced it with candles & set it afire. It was an amazing sight as you can see. Not pretty though. No, not pretty.

Last weekend Dave, Sandy, Greg, Liz, Chris & I took off for Augusta, NJ for the Michael Arnone Crawfish Festival. My cousin, Jon Bertrand, and his band, Pine Leaf Boys, played the festival this year. On Sunday night, they played Joe's Pub at Astor Place here in NYC. (photos posted soon or check out my flickr page for those.) Then I got to spend a couple of days just hanging out with Jon & Blake Miller, the PLB bassist. It was great to see the guys again.

They all used to work at the Essex House at some point but most of them have moved on to other jobs. It's always so nice to get together with this group. My friend, Ben, and I went for a walk in Brooklyn yesterday. One of the places we ended up was the Fulton Ferry landing underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. After blowing smoke out of his mouth like they do in the movies, we turned around to find a bride take some lovely photos with the Brooklyn Bridge behind her. It was a wonderful day!

Chris & I went over to Scott & Chet's apartment in Hell's Kitchen today to get our hair cut. We used to live next to them. Since we moved out over a year ago, various strange people have occupied the apartment. Today we met their new neighbor, Carlos. Carlos is a male homosexual escort. Carlos lives in our old apartment and he has stapled fake ivy to the porch railing in the back. Carlos charges $200/hour. Carlos is hot.

I shot this yesterday. It's one of the window displays for Anthropologie Clothing Store in Rockefeller Center. This store always has very interesting displays. Around Christmas, they hung giant marshmallows instead of using fake snow. We'll be seeing more of these shots throughout the year.

These are our cowboy boots. Chris bought his 2 pair in West Monroe, La this past Christmas. I inherited mine (foreground) from my mother-in-law. She hasn't worn these since the '70s. I love them but don't get to wear them often.

Thursday night, a group of us got together for our friend's 30th birthday. We rented a party bus, loaded it with alcohol & headed to Atlantic City. After breaking down on the turnpike & getting on an even better party bus, stopping for gas & realizing the driver didn't have the key to the gas tank, we finally made it to A.C. We had a blast!

It snowed & sleeted all day Friday. On Saturday, I decided to put on my snow boots & hit Central Park. You could hear kids laughing as they slid down hills on brightly colored plastic sleds. Parents were snapping pictures and laughing. It really was a nice day.

This is David Cederquist & David Hale of Quiet Library. They filmed a music video sketch in the Ridgewood, NJ Cemetery last weekend. What you can't see in this picture is the snow & ice on the ground. By the time we finished around 2 pm, the guys were filthy from sitting on the ground & lying on the pavement. There was even some raw meat involved toward the end of the shoot.

This is Andre Michot of the Lost Bayou Ramblers, a Cajun band out of Lafayette, Louisiana. We've been friends for a few years now. My cousin, Jon Bertrand, used to play guitar for Lost Bayou Ramblers. Jon has since moved on to a new band, the Pine Leaf Boys, but I stay in touch with Lost Bayou Ramblers and go see them when they're in the area. This photo was taken in Washington DC. This is Lionel & me at the nightclub Aer in the Meatpacking District in NYC. We were there for my friend Saree's birthday. In all of my nightclub experience, Lionel & Alex (not pictured) are some of the best guys to go clubbing with. They dance, they have a great time & they're protective which is great when all those random guys keep grabbing your ass and pulling your toward them while out on the dance floor.

Every year, I order a Mardi Gras King Cake from Gambino's Bakery out of New Orleans, La. This was supposed to arrive on Wednesday. Yesterday while I was home sick, they delivered it to the wrong floor in our building. I finally got it today around 2:30 pm. Just in time for the afternoon coffee. Sweet!
